Congressional Hearing on New Poverty Measurement
The subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support of the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Mean Committee held a hearing July 17 on a proposal to establish a new federal measure of poverty. Annie E. Casey Foundation president and CEO Douglas W. Nelson testified that the current measure does not reflect the real needs of today's low-income Americans.
